As I've stated in previous posts, I love oatmeal. It has many different health benefits & is really very tasty. It is also an extremely versatile breakfast option in that you can add whatever combinations of flavors your taste buds desire!
Personally, I love the taste of plain oatmeal. However, I can understand that many people find it to be a bit bland. This blandness, however, really lends oatmeal to a versatile selection of added ingredients. From cinnamon to milk to fruits & nuts, you can add pretty much whatever you want. I suppose you could add ingredients that are on the non-sweet/natural end of the spectrum, but I'm not sure how tasty that would be. If you've used ingredients that are more obscure and have had luck, please share your recipe with me! I love trying new things, especially when it comes to oatmeal :).
Here is a new recipe I tried and loved this morning - check it out!
Cranberry Cinnamon Oatmeal
1/2 cup Rolled Oats
1-2 tsp Cinnamon (to taste)
20 dried Cranberries*
1/4 cup Skim Milk Water
1/2 cup Rolled Oats
1-2 tsp Cinnamon (to taste)
20 dried Cranberries*
1/4 cup Skim Milk Water
Place the oats in a small sauce pan. Add water until the oats are swimming - about 1 cup. Place sauce pan over medium heat. Allow to sit until oats begin to cook.
Once the oats are cooking in the water and are starting to transform into the consistency of oatmeal, add the rest of your ingredients. Continuously stir your oatmeal so that it doesn't burn and so that your ingredients are mixed in.
This recipe makes one perfectly sized portion of oatmeal. Place into desired bowl and enjoy!
*For the dried cranberries, you can use Craisins. However, I prefer more natural brands (I get mine at Trader Joe's) because they have less sugar.
