Hidden Confectionery Gem of Boston

For over three years I've resided in Boston. Amongst the many things I love about this city, it's food culture tops the list. In particular, the bakeries offer a wonderful array of pastries, chocolates and more on which to indulge.

One of the hidden gems of Boston is a place called Serenade Chocolatier. This business has two locations: one in South Station and one a few blocks from my apartment. Needless to say, I frequently stop in to see what they're up to. In fact, I walked in this afternoon (inspiring this post)! So what's unique about this place? The creativity of the chocolate products & services they offer is very inspiring.

They have everything from truffles in a variety of delicious flavors to chocolate dipped fruit and nuts. They also have many confections completely different than any I've seen in other Boston bakeries. They both buy & make the molds to create their inventory: tennis rackets, tools, musical instruments, holiday shapes (pumpkins right now!), high heels & more.

They also have this really unique chocolate shell cake, cleverly labeled "Chocolate Pinata Cakes". These clever chocolates are created by forming a hollow chocolate shell filled with other store made chocolates. The shell is then decorated to your liking. They have premade cakes with a variety of descriptions as well. It comes with a mallet that you use to break the cake open. I'm thinking of grabbing one of these bad boys for the new year - what a great way to cross over into 2009 :).
If you live in Boston, or if you ever have the good fortune to find yourself here, you should really check it out! They also do parties for 6-12 people: $75 per person. They teach you how to work with chocolate at home & you get to bring around 2 pounds of chocolate home with you! Definitely worth the money. I'm planning to check it out with some of my girlfriends here in Boston. When I do, I'll be sure to let you know how great it is :).

Thanks Jessie! Yeah, it is super cool :) My friend loved the gift we got her from there, though we didn't do the cake...I'd definitely love to get that as a present :)
