Apple Crisp: Quick & Easy Style!

As the fall season ages, the days get shorter, and the temperature decreases, there is little I crave more than apples. Apple Pie, Apple Crisp, Apple Cider, Apple Donuts...need I go on? :) If I didn't have to work, I'd bake every apple recipe I know, every apple recipe in my countless cookbooks. Then, I'd start searching for new apple recipes online!

But...in today's economy, not working is the fortune of very few, and I am not one of them. So, what do I do if I have an apple craving? I turn to four of my favorite ingredients & one of the simplest kitchen tools that almost every person has in their kitchen. Want to know what they are?

Apples : Rolled Oats : Agave Nectar : Spices : The Microwave

This blog post is dedicated to those delicious ingredients above & one of the best kitchen appliance inventions of all time: the microwave. While not ideal for gourmet cooking, the microwave serves as the perfect quick craving fix machine. Here is a recipe for apple crisp that takes 8 minutes from prep to enjoyment.

Apple Crisp a la Microwave

2 Granny Smith Apples
1/2 cup Rolled Oats
4 tsp Agave Nectar
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
1/2 cup Water

Slice apples into halves. Slice one half into chunks & place into cereal bowl. Sprinkle 1/8 cup Rolled Oats over apple chunks. Drizzle 1 tsp Agave Nectar over oats. Continue the apple-oats-agave nectar patter 3 more times until you have used up your two apples.

Pour water over the top of your layered mixture. Next, sprinkle your cinnamon and nutmeg over top of your mixture. Be careful with the amount of cinnamon & nutmeg you use as they're very potent spices.

Place bowl into microwave for 4-5 minutes. You want your apple chunks to be apple-pie-consistency. Pull out of the microwave carefully as it will be hot. Enjoy!

** You can use just 1 apple if you want a smaller portion.
