Brain Food: Part 3 & Results

I had to put myself to bed a bit early last night due to test day being today. For dinner I had some tuna, a handful of walnuts, and a special treat: a fresh baked acorn squash from the farmer's market in Copley Square near my office!

If you are ever in Boston in the summer or fall on a Tuesday or Friday, you HAVE to check out the farmers market in Copley Square. Even if you aren't in Boston, farmer's markets are a great way to get inexpensive, delicious produce & to support local farmers.

So, this morning was my test & it went well. I had a banana and a protein packed meal replacement bar to keep me alert. I felt completely ready to take on the materials of the test and was not exhausted for a moment during the 4 hour examination process.

Even though my test was not exact science with controls, I strongly believe that preparing one's body & mind through healthy eating for the brain is an essential part of test preparation! Try it out and let me know how it goes - I promise that you'll feel great on exam day :)

My recipe for success:

Healthy Eating following Brain Food tips + Good Exercise Regimen + Studying + 7-8 hours of Sleep per Night the week before the exam

It also doesn't hurt to have a cuddly friend to help decrease your stress level. It's actually a proven fact that people with dogs & cats around have a below average level of stress. I know that coming home to this face immediately relieves me of the stress of the work day:

Digg!

I hope you did well on your test. I was at the market yesterday and thought of you. The November issue of Women's Health has an article in it about the power foods. It says sage, blueberries and edamame are memory enhancing and anxiety busting.

Thanks Alli! It actually went pretty well :)

I love women's health - I'm going to have to check that out. I've heard of blueberries but not sage or edamame. Delicious!

Do you have a blog or just a website?

Acorn squash is to DIE for - My mother always made it with maple syrup and cinnamon sprinkled on it. It's almost like dessert it's so tasy :)

Agreed, Kristen! How exactly does your mom make it? I've always tried different things and I feel as though I haven't gotten it quite right...

She would cut it in half, fill it a bit with water, and put it upside down on a baking tray for 25 minutes or so (i think.. i'll have to double check). It gets soft, and then she'd flip it, pour syrup in to half full and sprinkle the cinnamon all around.
