Fall, Fun & Food in NYC

In my personal opinion, there is no where like New England in the fall. Leaves changing, air crisply cool but pleasant, fall's sweet smell in the air...it's by far my favorite season.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of visiting NYC for both work and pleasure. I posted a few days ago about my upcoming Cup Cake tour of NYC. It was a lot of fun and a huge success! That blog post will be featured tomorrow morning, so make sure to visit & check it out :). I have lots of great recommendations for your next visit to the big apple.

My friends and I walked the streets of NYC all weekend. Here is a view of beautiful Bleeker Street (home of Magnolia bake shop - great cup cakes!). All in all, a wonderful weekend in NYC.

In preparation for the cupcake tour (and the caloric consumption that came with it) my friend Kristen and I headed for her gym: Crunch. I love my gym back in Boston, Fitcorp, but Crunch was an entirely different experience that I recommend to anyone living in/visiting the city. Along with a rock climbing wall, the gym boasts countless exercise machines, a wide variety of lifting equipment, and a boxing ring in the middle of it all! Crunch also offers many awesome classes including yoga & Pilate's (both with and without machines).

Kristen and I selected a class that I'd never heard of before: Body Web with TRX System. It uses the TRX System & your personal body weight to build muscle and really make you sweat! I work out 5-6 times a week and I must say, I'm still sore today! I highly recommend a class like this if you ever have the opportunity to try it. Here is the class description:
After this class, we needed some major refueling. Now, usually I'm not a bagel eater as it is full of carbs & calories that I'd rather obtain through other foods. However, I had to try this New York rendition of a bagel that I hadn't heard of before: the "Flagel" from Bagel Works (located at 1229 1st Ave, btwn 66th & 67th street). Essentially, the "Flagel" takes out the doughy part of the bagel, allowing you to indulge your bagel craving. I'm not at all sure what the calorie & carb count is on these bad boys, but I thoroughly enjoyed it :). It may be that they aren't any better for you than a normal bagel, but I say it's worth the splurge. I enjoyed mine with low fat veggie cream cheese. Another great thing about Bagel Works: they have a HUGE selection of cream cheeses to satisfy any sort of craving you may be having.

So, next time you're in DC, check out the plethora of classes offered at Crunch Gym (many locations around the city) & diverge a little from your diet with a Flagel, courtesy of Bagel Works. Really, who can go to NYC and not have a bagel??
