News, Tips & Stuff to Look Forward To!

A few updates for you on my upcoming culinary adventures:

One of next week's posts will feature my personal Peanut Butter Cookie Remix recipe, but with a twist. I've always wondered if it would translate across different nut butters...and so was born the "Nut Butter Remix Challenge"! I will be testing my recipe with four different types of nut butters:

- The Original Peanut Butter Recipe
- Almond Butter Recipe
- Cashew Butter Recipe
- Honey Roasted Peanut Butter Recipe

Make sure to visit tomorrow to check out the results!

I will be visiting some friends in New York this weekend. On the agenda: a tour of all that Manhattan has to offer in cup cakes! I'll be taking tons of pictures & asking questions of the bakeries (hopefully they'll be nice) in order to impart some great decorating tips! That post will be coming shortly after Saturday, so stay tuned to CreativeConfectionery.blogspot.com for more information! Does anyone have a recommendation of a bakery that I should definitely check out?

Thirdly, I am a HUGE Challah connoisseur. For those of you who are unfamiliar, this is the sweet Jewish bread eaten on the Sabbath & during other holidays. I live in an area exploding with Judaic culinary talent. Hopefully I'll discover some great places and recipes. I have one of my own that I will be sharing in the coming weeks.

Now to leave you with a bit of knowledge that was recently bestowed upon me by Chuck of The Knead for Bread Blog. His pictures are absolutely beautiful. Here is the advice he gave me when taking pictures of food:

"It is all about the lighting. That what gives these photos that extra something. Many of the pictures the breads are placed in front of a open window ( sliding door ) . That didn't have direct sunshine coming through. We reflected light back onto the bread with a reflector. Nice and simple but effective.

The reason for the reflecting light back onto the bread is because of the shadow that is caused by the light coming from the back of the bread. You want to use natural light - it will give the the best lighting florescent lighting is the worst light you can use for taking pictures.

I'm not sure, but, do you know what I mean by using a reflector? If not here is a link of a video showing you what a reflector looks like and how to use it. It may help.

Thanks Chuck!
