'Change Has Come to America'

Like I hope many of you, I spent last night watching the election, anxious to learn the fate of our country's leadership for the next four years. To my excitement & relief, the United States has entered into a new age: we now have our first black President. Aside from race, I truly believe that Obama has the potential to bring great changes to this country - I hope that he is true to his word & that he is able to bring unity & prosperity to the US over the next 4+ years.

Moving away from the politics of the last 24+ hours; Last night I attended a small gathering of friends to watch & celebrate election day. We had lots of food, lots of political commentary & chat, and in the end - were all very excited with the outcome!

Some of the foodie highlights from last night included:

A home made american flag cake! Credit to this one goes to my friends Alexa & Tom, who hosted the party. Vanilla cake (colored red & blue) along with vanilla icing, blueberries & strawberries made for a delicious & simple election day cake:

Though I didn't have much time, I still managed to flex my foodie muscles with a cute chips & salsa idea: white & blue cornchips with red salsa: Red, White & Blue baby!

Both of these ideas lend themselves to everyone: Democratic, Republican, or whatever your party, or not, everyone living in the USA is a citizen of the same country.

Once the election results were announced, however, my political opinions showed through as I celebrated with friends Obama's victory with an Obama inspired drink:

The Obamakaze

1 part Blue Curacao

1 part Vodka

1 part pineapple juice

Here's to a bright future in the coming months & years in the USA!
